Polytetramethylene Ether Glycol Polyol 1400 (PTMEG 1400)
CAS Number: 25190-06-1
Empirical Formula: HO(C4H8O)nH
PTMEG 1400 is a linear, difunctional, polyether diol with a melting point of 27°C. The viscosity of PTMEG 1400 is about 400 mPa⋅s at 40°C. It is a waxy solid at room temperature, but it melts to a colorless transparent liquid.
PTMEG 1400 is used as the soft (flexible) segment of high-performance polyurethane, polyurea, co-polyether-ester and co-polyether-amide elastomers, where different elastomer hardness, flexibility, resiliency, and a soft-hard segment balance are required vs. properties achieved with the PTMEG 1000 and PTMEG 2000 grades. Blends of PTMEG 1000 & 2000 diols exhibit bimodal molecular weight distributions. PTMEG 1400 is a better alternative, which offers narrower molecular weight distribution, thereby effectuating lower viscosity and improved processability, especially in melt molding and extrusion operations.
