Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM)
CAS Number: 2873-97-4
Empirical Formula: C9H15NO2
Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM) is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 57°C. It is an acrylic type monomer, used as a crosslinking monomer to make functional copolymers. DAAM can be copolymerized with vinyl acetate monomer, MMA, acrylic esters, acrylamide, and styrene, etc., in solution, in bulk, or in emulsion systems. It is used in the production of emulsion polymers, water-soluble resins, sizing agents, thickeners, coatings, adhesives and sealants.
Diacetone acrylamide has the structural formula:
DAAM monomer is water soluble and soluble in most organic solvents. The homopolymer of DAAM has a Tg of 77°C and it is water soluble. Hydrophilic copolymer compositions can be produced using higher levels of DAAM in the monomer feed, and subsequently rendered water insoluble by R.T. crosslinking.
