1,6-Hexanediol (HDO)

1,6-Hexanediol (HDO) is a bifunctional primary alcohol that appears as a white waxy solid at room temperature and is soluble in water and various organic solvents. It is widely used in the production of polycarbonate diols, polyester polyols, reactive diluents, and adhesives, as well as in saturated and unsaturated polyester resins. HDO serves as a chain extender in polyurethane manufacturing, enhancing mechanical strength and hydrolytic resistance, and as a monomer for acrylic and methacrylic oligomers. Additionally, it functions as a chemical intermediate for polymeric plasticizers, surfactants, and specialty chemicals.
