As a respected and responsible marketer of chemicals and chemical products around the world, Gantrade is committed to being a good corporate citizen by protecting the environment, protecting health and safety, championing human rights, conducting its business to the highest ethical standards, and working to make the chemical industry more sustainable.
Sustainable chemistry involves efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly chemical products and processes. A proactive approach to sustainability includes reducing the use of hazardous materials, increasing the reliance on renewable resources, and minimizing the environmental impact of chemical manufacturing and use.
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is a corporate reporting framework that evaluates a company’s business practices in these three areas. Together, these factors indicate the sustainability of a company and highlight key initiatives and ongoing measures of the company’s performance with regard to its impact on the planet and society.
Environmental aspects of the framework consider greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, energy efficiency, waste management, and other such factors. The social aspects include data on employee health and safety, diversity, equity, inclusion, and other humanitarian factors. The governance aspect includes corporate executive compensation, management, structure, diversity in management, corruption, and other elements of corporate governance.
Sustainability in the chemical industry has wide-reaching implications, due to its global footprint. Chemistry has always been at the forefront of finding solutions to society’s challenges. This makes ESG particularly important in the chemical industry, where innovation has the potential to create a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future. While other industries may have less opportunity to impact the long-term health of our planet, our industry shares an opportunity to improve environmental conditions on a global scale.
Gantrade maintains policies and certifications that demonstrate our commitment to positive ESG outcomes. Many of these are outlined below. Additionally, we participate in the EcoVadis program to reflect our ongoing efforts toward sustainability.
In 2021, President Joseph Biden signed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) into law. UFLPA aims to prevent the entry into the United States of any goods produced in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of northwest China through forced labor.
Some of Gantrade Corporation’s products are produced in China, but none in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. We are working diligently with our partners to ensure that there are no interruptions in supply due to this regulation.
Our business is grounded in a commitment to meeting our customers’ requirements by providing high-quality products, technical expertise, and excellent customer service. This commitment is reflected in our registration to the ISO9001 quality management standard.
Companies create and document policies, processes, and procedures to earn the ISO 9001 certification. Our quality management system focuses on continuous improvement in our marketing, sales, and distribution of petrochemical-based products.
Our commitment to protecting the environment and health and safety is reflected in our registration to the American Chemical Council’s Responsible Care™ management system.
By joining the program, we have pledged to operate in a safe and sustainable manner. Gantrade cares about the health and safety of our employees, the communities where we operate, and the environment.
Gantrade’s Quality Policy recognizes that our customers, employees, and suppliers drive our success. We focus on providing our customers with products that meet or exceed their requirements.
To facilitate continuous improvement, our organization measures customer and supplier satisfaction, product and market diversification, and stakeholder value. Our goal is to meet the changing needs of our customers.
Our Supplier Code of Conduct demonstrates our commitment to partner only with organizations that share our commitment to being good corporate citizens. Our Supplier Code of Conduct covers our expectation that all our suppliers must meet in the areas of human rights, labor standards, quality, safety, respect for the environment, business ethics, and transparency.
We have also pledged our support to the United Nations Global Compact, which promotes a culture of integrity and responsibility to people and the planet, and REACH, a European community program that regulates the safe use and distribution of chemicals.
The UN Global Compact focuses on 10 principles for the protection of human rights, elimination of harmful labor practices, promotion of environmental responsibility, and an end to corruption in business. Gantrade has taken action to implement the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact, including an annual submission of our Communication on Progress.
