Tetrahydrofuran (THF)

Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a colorless, volatile cycloaliphatic ether produced by dehydrating 1,4-Butanediol. It is highly polar, miscible with water, and an excellent solvent for various organic substances. Approximately 79% of THF is consumed in the production of polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), used for manufacturing urethane elastomers, spandex fibers, and copolyester-ether elastomers. The remaining 21% is used as a solvent in PVC cements, coatings, magnetic tape production, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
