Gantrade Corporation is an active supporter of the Responsible Care® Program. Responsible Care® is moving beyond codes of management practices to achieve better Environmental Health, Safety, and Security (EH&S) performance and obtain more business value for our members and Partners.
What Is Responsible Care®?
Responsible Care® is a program from the American Chemistry Council. Participating companies pledge to operate in a safe and sustainable manner. By joining the Responsible Care® program, Gantrade demonstrates its commitment to the health and safety of our employees, the communities where we operate, and the environment.
As part of the program, companies must do the following:
- Sign the Responsible Care® Guiding Principles
- Track and report on their performance with EH&S metrics
- Obtain a third-party audit and certification for compliance with the
- Responsible Care® Management System
- Put in place product safety, process safety, and security codes
What are the Benefits of Responsible Care®?
Workers and the communities where they live benefit from the Responsible Care® program with increased worker safety and improved environmental conditions. The program promotes a culture of safe chemicals management and sustainability.
Companies that participate in the program have worker safety rates that are five times better than other companies in the U.S. manufacturing sector and three times better than those in the chemistry business. The program has led to a 26% reduction in recordable injuries and illness rates since 2010.
Responsible Care® companies also have decreased their Greenhouse Gas Intensity and reduced emissions of SOx and NOx.
Who Needs to Comply?
The program is voluntary but required as part of a company’s membership in the American Chemistry Council. The Responsible Care® program exists in nearly 70 countries.
How Does it Help Consumers?
Consumers benefit from Responsible Care® in many ways. Because the program strengthens the safe management of chemicals, consumers benefit from reduced emissions into the environment. The program also encourages energy efficiency and tracks related metrics.
