Triethylamine

Triethylamine, with the formula N(CH2CH3), is widely used in organic synthesis, primarily as a base in the preparation of esters and amides from acyl chlorides. During these reactions, it reacts with hydrogen chloride to form triethylamine hydrochloride, also known as triethylammonium chloride. This compound is a colorless, volatile liquid characterized by a strong fish-like odor.
